Attaching
wires to terminals for electrical connections has always
presented problems to the manufacture. Issues such as oxide
and surface contamination, galvanic corrosion and IR drop
across a connection are the usual concerns.
Ultrasonic
metal welding (wire termination) produces the best possible
electrical connection. The
high frequency vibrations "scrub" through oxides and
surface contaminants and the process produces a true metallurgical
bond between the metal conductors, creating an excellent path
for conductivity.
Ultrasonic metal welding
is used to produce many critical safety circuit connections.
Due to the high level of process control and connection
reliability, ultrasonic metal welding is ideal for any
electrical connection ranging from welding wires to spade
terminals used for appliance plugs, to welding flat ribbon cable
for specialized safety circuits.
In
fact, ultrasonic metal welding produces such a high integrity,
low resistance reliable connection, the process is employed by
many high frequency computer communication cable
manufactures.
